Decentralized Arts Funding Program

Young Audiences Charter School is excited to announce our “Monthly Performance Concert Series” supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the the Arts Council New Orleans. Funding has also be provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Arts Works.

In addition to being a major component of our curriculum, artistic performances are central to school culture. Decentralized Arts Funding has allowed YACS to offer a comprehensive  performance series featuring our region’s most talented performing artists and ensembles during the 2018-19 school year. Performances were selected to complement existing school events, meet specific curriculum standards, and address academic content in subject areas such as math, science, language arts, and social studies. Featured artists include:  Grayhawk Perkins, Kumbuka African Drum and Dance Collection, Donald Lewis, Music of India, Mike Artell, OperaCréole, MetroPelican Opera, and Curtis Pierre.
